Fab Online Finds – Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is this Sunday. I was reminded of it yesterday, when my kids brought Mother’s Day gifts from Kindergarten It’s always so sweet, they are so proud – and I’m always amazed at how imaginative and creative the Kindergarten teachers are each year.

Getting these presents made me think that I hadn’t done anything for my own mother, so I went online to search for fun, easy, not too time consuming projects I could whip up before Sunday. Here’s some of the wonderful ideas I found

This is fun and very easy to make!

This little book is very easy to make and fits perfectly in a handbag.

I love this mini in an envelope! Just perfect!

This is very simple – and I love that it’s made from a single 12*12 sheet of paper!!

I love accordian albums, and even though this one is a baby album, the idea can be used for anything and everything.

However, I think this is what I’ll be making this weekend…

It’s super easy, super simple, super cute – and I love that my mom will be able to hang it on her wall or keep it in her purse.

Fab Online Finds – Journals

I love journaling and for the past year I have been crazy about mini journals. I like the fact that my journals make my photos more visible to guests and family than the layouts that are saved to my hard drive

Right now, I’m working on a travel journal for a weekend trip to London, my husband and I took at the end of March. That means that all I do these days, is search the internet for inspiring travel journals…and there are MANY of those!!

I have a secret journal crush on Mary Ann Moss of the Dispatch from LA blog. I want my travel journals to look like this – messy and fabulous:

I love how she shows the process of her journaling – and her amazing photography. Mary Ann has an amazing eye for interesting photos on her travels!

And Jenni Hufford makes fantastic journals, like this travel journal from New Zealand

I love Jenni Hufford’s blog, so full of inspiration and her mini books and journals are amazing. Same can be said of Elise Blaha’s blog. She makes fabulous mini books.

I’ll leave you with a page from an Icelandic journaler. I love how she draws in her journals – I have always wanted to be able to sit down somewhere and sketch what I see…

Mini-Tutorial: Using Torn Bits

Hi CatScrappers! Lex here with a mini-tutorial of sorts on using one of my absolute FAVORITE items in the shoppe, the Torn Bits overlays of Creashens! (images are linked)

I love these for how versatile they are–they work with vintage-inspired kits and add an authenticity to their mood; they complement more modern-looking kits with how they contrast against any clean lines and patterns. And they just help make a digital scrapbook layout just seem more real with their worn and torn appearance.

I went spelunking in the gallery and found some awesome inspiration on how to use these Torn Bits–check them out:

Ultracoolmama gave her photos that extra punch by using the Torn Bits with them:

Ferdy put a fun spin by inserting colorful pattern papers into a couple of the photo spaces:

Designer Mellybird injected fun cropping with her photos using these overlays:

Rachel incorporated Torn Bits right into her title work, by using them as matting for her acrylic alpha:

Tali had some fun with paper blocking juxtaposed with her son’s photos:

Lastly, Teeshoom used two types of these Torn Bits and played around with awesome composition with her photos:

Hope these pieces of art inspired your own ideas on how to use these definitely-must-have-in-your-stash overlays! What’s awesome is Shen includes both shadowed and unshadowed versions, so you can instantly add depth and realism to your layout. Try them out and see for yourself!

It’s the end of the weekend and it’s time for another look through the BOB thread.

There are so many amazing layouts in the Catscrap gallery and to highlight those we think are the best of the best, we create a BOB section of the forum. Everyone can add their favorite layouts to the April BOB thread and link them so we can leave some love too.

Every Saturday, we’ll highlight some of the layouts here on the blog and at the end of the month a winner will be chosen from the highlighted layouts. The winner will not only get to sport the BOB blinkie all over the digiworld, but will also get a 3 month guest gig on the Catscrap CT.
